Roundtable ”Transparency and Justice Reform in Albania”

The justice reform is one of the most profound legal and institutional reforms that has affected the justice system in Albania in the last two decades. What makes this reform distinctive and very important is, among other things, the broad impact that this process has had on interest groups, whose activities are related to the justice system, but not only. The impact of this process extends more broadly to Albanian society. This is because the reform, in addition to the legal professions that have been affected by it in various ways, has exerted a significant impact on the private sphere of every citizen in terms of receiving justice in a timely manner, as one of the main principles of law: “Justice delayed, justice denied”.

The reform of the justice system in the country came as a need dictated by two factors: as a condition set by the European Union for the country’s integration into the EU, articulated for many years in the form of recommendations in the Progress Reports drafted for Albania by the European Commission, but also as a natural need dictated by the factual institutional and social circumstances of the country.

The roundtable was held on September 22, 2022 with the presence of Ms. Romina Kuko, member of the Board of the Qemal Stafa Foundation and Deputy Minister of Interior, Ms. Klotilda Bushka, Chairwoman of the Committee on Legal Affairs, Public Administration and Human Rights, members of this Committee, Mr. Sokol Haxhiu, representative of the Westminster Foundation for Democracy, as well as professionals in the field of justice.
